Friendly Chatter
A poem written in 1984 inspired by my frequent visits to Key Biscayne, Florida.
You are incredible;
undulating in perfect tranquility,
yet insatiably greedy;
a veritable monster.
You devour the unsuspecting,
without a misgiving;
your pretentious peacefulness deceiving.
Luring me with soothing sounds,
advancing with a rush;
retreating abruptly,
daring me to plunge.
Rebirth in your wet embrace,
painful pricks washed away;
Solace in your Sol-kissed swells,
The translucent depths echo, “All is well!”
Lingering in your hypnotic grip;
With each bellow, I gaspingly dip.
You want me, don’t you,
in the guise of play and fun;
The day is at an end,
Enough is enough!
